section 8 – Under which of the five discharges does a “Section 8″ now fall under?

by postman on April 9, 2012

Each time I try to think about anything like section 8 its not necessarily simple. Below is a fascinating observation on some thing that usually grabs my focus. What I especially appreciate about it is really the incredible situation that it isn’t merely a common opinion on the topic. The writer in fact takes their time to actually look at what they may be writing on the subject of and how they feel about it that is significant to me and why I’ve decided to go with it.

However, not to take up too much of the time studying an opening comment why don’t we move forward using the actual piece just below

Question by : Beneath which of the five discharges does a “Section eight” now fall under?
Section 8 was a Vietnam-Era term for the mentally unfit and the discharge of the mentally unfit. What discharge covers it now?
It has absolutely nothing to do with myself or anybody I know. I just wanted to know what it was classified as for reference to a story I am writing.
There are only five varieties of discharges. I didn’t list them prior to for worry that individuals would clutch at straws. The five are Honorable, Common, Other Than Honorable, Negative Conduct and Dishonorable.

There is no such thing as a Section 8 discharge.

The term began during WWII as a misunderstanding of a Army Medical Department process about mental disorders. The term became more popular during the Korean War, less so during Vietnam.

Those suffering from mental disorders can be discharged from the Army under a number of different Chapters of several different Army Regulations. In general, those suffering from debilitating mental disorders that prevent them from continued military service will either be given a Honorable Discharge (as long as there are no other negative legal issues) or will be allowed to medically retire if they have enough time in.
